FREE ESOL CLASSES ON MARTHA'S VINEYARD:

On Martha's Vineyard, free English language instruction for adults whose first language is not English is provided by the Martha’s Vineyard Adult Learning Program (MVALP).

Classes meet at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School in Oak Bluffs, and pre-registration is required.

LIBRARY RESOURCES FOR LANGUAGE LEARNING:

Mango Languages is an interactive online language-learning system offering English for Brazilian Portuguese speakers. A Vineyard Haven Library CLAMS card, computer and Internet access are required to access the system from home.

Livemocha is an effective, engaging English language-learning solution that blends learning materials with real-life practice with native speakers of English.

The Vineyard Haven Public Library maintains a large collection of materials for ESL students and teachers, including Books, Audio CDs, Cassettes, DVDs, Computer Programs. Materials are shelved on the lower level, across from the Reference Desk. Materials may also be requested through the CLAMS Catalog.

FUNDING FOR ESL RESOURCES:

Conversation Circles at the Vineyard Haven Public Library have been funded through the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners with funds from LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act), a Federal source of library funding provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
